This Thanksgiving and 'This Christmas'

posted Tuesday, 27 November 2007

Had less free time in NYC (New York City) than I expected to, as always. I ate a lot of food. About to get on a plane, but please check out last week's Thanksgiving edition of The Write Stuff here.

And...

THIS CHRISTMAS (B+)

Laz Alonso , Idris Elba , Columbus Short , Sharon Leal , Keith Robinson , Regina King , Ambrosia Kelley , Loretta Devine , Delroy Lindo , Lauren London , Javion Francis, Lupe Ontiveros and Chris Brown in Screen Gems' This Christmas

Maybe it's because I just sat through the lazy, depressing Fred Claus. Maybe it's because I was expecting Tyler Perry in drag. Maybe it's because my holiday spirit is at an all-time low. Whatever the reason, This Christmas came as a complete surprise. I kinda loved the thing...

Also, here's last year's Turkey Day entry, my top five Thanksgiving-themed movies. And here's the Thanksgiving entry from two years ago, a Mama's Family remembrance.

And taken from an old "Story of My Life" entry (available, as always, in the archives), here's highlights from my very first, and possibly best, Thanksgiving in New York:

Thanksgiving 2003. Two of my best friends came to visit me in New York for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was great. We painted the town. Some highlights:

1) Attending the Macy's Day Parade. Our spot was right underneath a giant billboard of a male underwear model. We would snap pictures of each balloon character as it approached the man's package. Funniest was Pikachu, who was in an "on his stomach, mouth open" pose. Seeing a Pokemon character blow a male model is really what Thanksgiving is all about, isn't it?

2) Seeing Bad Santa at the theater, drunk out of our minds. I believe it was a 2PM show.

3) Enjoying a fairly delicious Thanksgiving dinner in a trashy upper west side diner.

4) Drinking a downright shocking amount of alcohol in the back of Rudy's, my favorite NYC bar.

Ah, memories.

Your dream woman has a speech impediment? Interesting...

Glad you had fun in NYC.

Ah, NYC. Nothing quite like it. What exactly were you in NYC for?

Nutsy,

It's odd, but I definitely respond to odd voices, lisps, accents, etc. Holly Hunter's voice is the all-time sexiest.

Chris,

Most of my friends and my girlfriend are in NYC, I try to get there pretty often.
