FIRST SUNDAY (D)

See the expression on Ice Cube's face in this photograph? I wore that same expression for the entire running time of First Sunday. The transition of the holiday movie season into the barren movie wasteland of January is always a jarring one. For the past three months, it seems like I've seen nothing but Oscar-caliber movies -- masterful films by outstanding filmmakers working from amazing scripts. So maybe First Sunday just pales in comparison...
But I don't think so.

For an interview with the film's writer/director David E. Talbert (a very nice man, which made my review of the film a bit awkward), CLICK HERE.
And I haven't linked to my Cinematical stuff in a while, so here's a few. As always, you can read everything I write for them by clicking the link on the top left of the page.

For my short piece on a hilariously uncomfortable interview with John Cusack (thanks for the heads-up, Josh), CLICK HERE.
For my junket discussion with Denzel Washington and the cast of The Great Debaters, CLICK HERE. (Someone in the comments recently asked if he had a weak handshake...it seemed reasonably firm to me.)
And for my Cinematical Seven called "Christmas Movies that Demand 'R' Rated Remakes," CLICK HERE.
I know I've fallen behind on my year-end movie reviews, but I just got burned out. I'll try to get caught up this week, then hit you with my 2007 music list, then get back to business as usual.
Man, everyone who commented (so far) on that R-Rated Xmas movie thread
seems to think you wrote that whole thing with a straight face or
something. I thought it was hilarious, especially Home Alone 2 by
Scorsese...nice.
The Cusack interview was hysterical. Really. Although I hope Ms. Film
Student rethought her career and joined a steno pool.....
Thanks guys! You know I wrote that "R" rated Christmas movies thing fast,
but was really happy with it. I put it up expecting to get some nice
feedback, and nothing. It made me doubt it, which is why I didn't post the
link for a while. I've been crying ever since, but now my frown is turned
upside down.
I think they just didn't get it. You're ahead of their time, man. We
understand you over here, though.
