Major Announcements!

posted Thursday, 8 March 2007

A few announcements:

First, the blog has a new design, as I'm sure you noticed. The site has been opening up to a larger audience, and I just wanted it to look a little classier. What do you think? I'll be updating all the tags, categories, etc, in the coming weeks. Comments were disabled for a while yesterday, but they're back up. It is slightly more complicated than before to post, but you'll figure it out. And as always, keep 'em coming!

Second, got a very cool shoutout from a writer I really admire, Ken Levine. He used to write for MASH and Cheers, and has an excellent comedy/writing tips site. Thanks a lot, Ken, and even though he's been linked to the right for a while now, just a reminder to check him out!

And third, just as this site once cost me a job, it has now gotten me a job. The circle is complete, Simba! I was contacted last week by one of my favorite websites, and probably the finest movie blog on the net: Cinematical. I begin writing for them next week. (I learned just how dangerous it can be posting your every thought on the net, when, in my interview, I was told I wouldn't be able to write about Cum In My Eye 9, as the site is owned by AOL).

What does that mean for this site? The site you've supported for nearly two years? Hopefully not much. If anything, a lot of the film-related content will naturally defer to Cinematical, (they are paying me, after all) but I'll still try to post on here as much as humanly possible.

So I think that's it. If you have any questions about anything, ask away!

Pat! Really good to hear that you have a job writing about movies. It is your destiny. I know you probably can't say... but I am curious how much a job like that pays. Is it to be your sole source of income? Or is it just some helpful spending cash?

Curious Jason

Does this mean I have to go to this Cinematical site now to read your movie reviews? Will you at least link us to it so we don't have to go there every week on our own? I hate having new sites to check all the time. Man, this Internet SURE is a hassle.

Lazy Jason

I heard a nasty rumor that Blog-City MADE people make these changes, care to confirm or deny?

I do like that you have to know simple arithmetic in order to post comments now. Maybe that'll weed out some of the UNDESIRABLES.

I too am curious about whether the job with Cinematical is full-time.

Congratulations! I love your movie reviews, they are lucky to have you. Here is some movie-related goodness from one of my favorite websites.

Way to go, Pat! Yes, I too hope you'll be able to link from here to there for your movie reviews--I depend on those suckers.

New site looks slick. Very slick.

A little TOO slick perhaps?

Curious Jason (Any relation to George?),

It all depends on how much I post. I'm going to keep temping but it looks like the Cinematical gig will cover at least rent, which is awesome.

Lazy Jason (Any relation to Susan?),

I'll definitely link to the site, but you should check it out anyway.

Rob,

They didn't make me, no, but they offered all these infinitely better options to improve the look of the site, so I figured why not?

JJ, Andrea, Colleen, Danny

Thanks! And Colleen, that was a funny list, although I have disagree with the statement that no good movie's title has ever contained the word "Heat." What about..."Heat?"

Also, can you guys see the heads on the photo up top or are they cropped for you too? Everything looked great when I left the house this morning and now the picture's messed up for me. Guess there's still some kinks to work out.

You can see the heads in firefox, but they're chopped off in IE. Heh, have fun figuring that out.

Pat, I like the new format, but I think the "I like to move it, move it" line needs to come back.

Yes, the photo is cropped (no faces). But I thought you might have done that due to copyright issues. Wish I could still 'preview' my comment and skip the math (ouch my head hurts). But, it is slick... so I'll live with it... for now!

Colleen,

I think 'Body Heat' and 'The Ice Storm' are also good movies. 'Cool as Ice' starring Vanilla Ice is underrated as well.

That's really, really cool. Awesome. And also, about time.

Second, I didn't know there would be math involved with the new posting system. As such, I might not be posting as often from this point forward.

I was going to say, I can't really think of a remotely BAD movie with any of the words from that McSweeneys article list in its title.

Oh, okay...it says "remotely good FILMS," not movies. Well I can still get behind BODY HEAT and IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (among others) as evidence to the contrary of that.

The heads aren't chopped off for me, lookin' good, where screenshots of ANCHORMAN are concerned (that is from, pretty easily, the best part of the movie I will say).

I finally (coming up on three or four years now since you recommended it?) saw MAY last night, good God it was awesome indeed...so squirm-inducing! But in the BEST POSSIBLE WAY! And I think it holds the distinction of being the only movie in movie history to have used TKD6K on the soundtrack, (and used it well, at that!). I enjoyed immensely, thanks for the recommendation, even if it pre-dated this blog by like two years.
