Sorry I've been M.I.A. lately, but I've got a pretty excellent reason. I just found out that my writing partner and I have been staffed on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. We met with the three stars/producers of the show Monday, met with the FX Network on Tuesday, found out Friday night, and we start on Monday.
What can I say? I'm beyond happy. Sunny is easily one of the funniest shows on television, and gets better each year. To have my first major network gig on a show I've seen every episode of, a show I love to watch, a show I can tell people about proudly, is a real thrill. The series is heading into its fourth season now, and new episodes will likely air in September.
Here's the imdb page, where it currently sports a 9.6 out of 10 rating.
Here's a Variety review of the show.
Here's the show's official site.
Posts may thin out a bit around here, but no, I'm not packing up the site -- in fact, a new podcast was recorded this very weekend and will debut here shortly.
This is a very exciting time, the culmination of everything Sonny and I have been working for. Big thanks to the various people who helped make this happen. Big thanks to my wonderful agent and fantastic manager. And big thanks to all of you, who have cheered me on for so long. All the encouraging comments and kind words over the years have gone a long way toward keeping me energetic and hopeful. And to the few of you who have taken time out of your day to leave comments telling me I'd never amount to anything (Oh, "Job," where are you now?), I hope to someday place my balls in your mouth.
Seriously, thanks everyone!
Wow, you just stole my dream job. Congrats! I was already looking forward
to next season, but now....well, what else is there to say? Kick some ass,
man.
Major congratulations are in order my friend. Kudos x 100. I wonder what
old "Die in a fire" would have to say about this.
Congrats Pat! I'm so happy for you and can't wait to see next season. You
deserve it. Be sure to stop by STL from time to time when you're rich and
famous so we can buy you drinks and you can bask in our envy.
John
Wow, great news! I really like the sense of humour in your writing, and I'm
sure it'll add to the awesomeness that is It's Always Sunny in
Philadelphia. Congrats.
CONGRATULATIONS! "...Sunny" is one of my all-time favorite shows! Dream
job. You have to go to Philly? Very very cool news!
Wow...I'm super impressed...it's easily one of my favorite shows and
now...you're officially my hero.
Damn I officially feel out of the loop, as I've never watched a single
episode. Now I will haha. Congrats man, keep it up dude!
Holy shit!!!!!!! You did it. GOOD FOR YOU!!! Like Vaugn, have never seen
it, but will SO be watching it now. I'm so happy for you.
Congratulations! I hope you get to put your skanutties in Job's pie hole
too.
Congratulations! That's such great news! I'm going to have to add the show
to my lineup now : )
Pat, I could not be prouder of you. In honor of your big break on one of
the funniest shows on television, here's one of my favorite Sunny moments:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wv3e2gMxY0Q It's an impressive standard, but I
know you'll live up to it. Well done!
CONGRATS! You deserve it! Thats amazing. I've never seen the show since I
never got FX, but now that I'm stealing cable, I will totally watch! can't
wait to see it!
Proof that there are still some people in TV land that don't have their
heads up their asses. Congrats, Pat! Can't wait to see your episodes.
F U C K I N G A W E S O M E!!!
oh my goodness i hate you. and by that i mean i love you. but seriously,
you just landed my dream job. life is so unfair. for me. it's really fair
to you. now we know who god loves best.
Congratulations, sir. Truly a testament to what you can do with talent and
persistence. Now, remember to use lots of Vaseline when you have to blow
DeVito. Because, you know, it just feels better.
One of my very, very favorite shows of all time. Major congratulations,
dude. I'm looking forward to your and Sonny's contributions.
Jackson, the DeVito blow job reference was hysterical,
but......vaseline??????? Wha?
Wow! Pat, it has been a complete thrill for me to watch your career, and
to see the way you have lived your life with courage, hope, and
determination. I am not surprised that this big break has finally
happened. Remember this time in your life for the rest of your life.
Congratulations!
Nutsy,
Dude. I've been a fan of that show since the first episode; it's one of
the best comedies on the air - in years, truly.
Been reading your site for only about a year now, but I can say without a
doubt that you will fit in with those madmen most perfectly.
Kick some righteous ass, and congratulations to you, good sir.
Hey man, question -- Now that you will be writing for the show, will you
earn royalties on that show whenever its aired, I know the strike ended
just never got into the details of the settlement. Also, what about sites
like hulu?
Congratulations, "Sunny" is a great match for your writing talents. It's
one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Well done sir!
Woo Hoo! The Pat and Sonny show in full effect... Don't forget the little
people, and remember that the people you pass on the way to the top are
often the people you pass on the way down. That sounded bad. You know what
I mean... Mucho awesomeness thoughts headed your way.

Wow...That is awesome I love that show. I have a question. I was
wondering if you could possibly write about the process of getting hired to
the staff of a tv show. I have always wondered what exactly you must do to
get on a writing staff, so if you could please share your process of gettin
hired that would be much appreciated.
My only question is how will Patrick survive what I'm assuming is a drug
fueled orgy of a writer's room?
Congratulations to you and Sonny. I've been a lurker (wait, I've commented
a few times) and really enjoyed your and Sonny's blogs and watching the
journey and great posts along the way. As a former New Yorker, I related
about the NY experiences (especially dating in New York!) and as a girl
growing up in Trenton, have a soft spot for Philly. I haven't watched this
show yet but I will now. PS I hope you'll be posting about other stuff as
well!
