Hey everyone, Just writing to let you know I am in New York City through early next week and posting will more than likely not resume full-on until I am back in Los Angeles.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Should you find yourself with nothing to talk about after dinner, (a given), here are my five favorite Thanksgiving - themed movies:
1) Planes, Trains and Automobiles - An all-time favorite, Thanksgiving or otherwise. Steve Martin AND John Candy. Gold.
2) Home for the Holidays - Near-perfect movie, directed by Jodie Foster and starring my dream woman Holly Hunter.
3) Dutch - You've probably never seen this. Al Bundy has to drive a spoiled rich kid home for Thanksgiving. Seriously, LOL hilarious.
4) The Ice Storm - If you like your Thanksgiving tinged with sexual dissatisfaction and emotional collapse. I know I do.
5) Pieces of April - Falls under "good" not "great," but genuinely moving and funny and you get to see Katie Holmes before it all fell apart. Ignore the Lifetime-esque title, this isn't the schmaltzfest you're probably expecting.
Not seen Dutch!? Are you kidding? This movie was on at least nine times a
week at the height of my HBO-only-all-the-time phase. Pat is right on the
money with this. Dutch is a surprise laugh-fest. And who can pass up the
chance to see a brilliant performance from a young Ethan Embry, famous for
such films as Can't Hardly Wait, and, uh... Ethan Embry everybody!
Yeah, Jason told me about this annual Trivia Night you put together/host
(or at least used to?), Pat, and suffice it to say I was very disappointed
I'd never been invited, and yes, I realize how rude it is to say as such,
and yes, I love trivia enough that I don't care.
Ethan Embry took over the Rusty role in VEGAS VACATION (which received no
fewer than ONE ENTIRE MENTION in a Walshcast (I think I just came up with a
name for your podcast). Also he was in Wes Craven's THEY, which yes, I've
seen, and which yes, was a movie. And let us not forget his turn in EMPIRE
RECORDS!
Bloody hell...I always figured you for an attention whore, but stumbling
upon your blog is my first true proof since your infamous "Love Shack" trio
with Katie and Dennery (which I must say I was dissappointed not to see
rated higher on your song list).
Oh, and regarding PLANES, TRAINS, & AUTOMOBILES - they definitely shot most
or all of the St. Louis airport scenes in St. Louis, and my family all went
out there to be extras, and got paid to do so, so that movie definitely
holds an extra-special place for me...my little sister got lost and Steve
Martin found her and bought her some M&Ms from a vending machine. Hell
maybe that whole experience was the reason I wanted to go into movies?
twas good to see you, pat.
