Fun With Alzheimers!

posted Tuesday, 17 October 2006

Actual phone message left by my father Sunday night:

"Hello Patrick! Saw that new Scorsese movie The Betrayed last night! The one with Jack Nicholson and DiCaprio!? Whoo! I still can't settle down! Awesome movie! The Betrayed! Whoo!"

He's getting old.

Shared this incident with a friend of mine and he countered, "Yeah, it's Scorsese's best movie since Wiseguys." To which I countered, "True, and that was his best movie since Angry Horse."

Some other Scorsese favorites of mine include Cab Steerer, Lake Scary, and Place Where Gambling Happens

Ah, jokes for film nerds.

This title confusion must run in the family, I still remember my grandmother taking my sister and me to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit when we were little. The exchange with the ticket taker went a little something like this:

GRANDMA: One adult and two children for Peter Cottontail.

USHER: I'm sorry?

GRANDMA: Peter Cottontail.

USHER: Come again?

GRANDMA: PETER COTTONTAIL!!!

This went on for several minutes.

And yet, once again, no love for Buddha Rides a Donkey.

My grandmother has called me Georgie for as long as I can remember. I don't have the heart to tell her that my name is Ian. She is fat.

my best friend's grandma calls anyone who isn't caucasian "viet-mese". That has nothing to do with movies. it's just kind of terrible...

Wait... ANYONE who isn't causcasian? For example, does she say things like, "Dammit, there's too many goddman Vietnamese in the NBA! And all they do is dunk! Whatever happened to the passing game?"

Yes... but it's "Viet-mese"... she says it w/o the "na". But yeah... you got the idea :)

not sure if we are talking about a disease or a generational gap... as my friends know ... i send way too many txt messages... i feel like it's a good way to say 'howdy' ... and/or 'go red sox'...

anyway, i have group-list and i put my uncle on it way-back-when... apparently he was in the middle of funeral when he received my txt and ... beep beep beep ... he had a hard time shutting-up his phone ... anyway... he's off the group-list.

ps - i thought if you had a phone on silence...it would not make a noise regardless of txt messages, etc..?!

Am I the only one that enjoyed "Evil Roads"

Georgie,

Enjoyed the story.

Julie,

My neighbor refers to an Asian friend of mine as "The Oriental." As in, "The Oriental over again?"

My grandmother refers to African-Americans as (always in a whisper) "The blacks..."

JJ,

I am genuinely shocked at the amount of text messages I get from you in a given week. I always assume you're drunk, that's when I do most of my texting.

I thought the "Warcraft" South Park was one of the funniest ever, I thought the 9/11 one REALLY sucked. (although I liked the Hardly Boys) We'll see how tonight's is.

Matt,

Keep squeezing the juice out of that dying orange, my friend!

Pat,

This is really more a comment about your earlier post, but you talked about Kundun being Scorsese's worst film, and I present you with another option. How about "Age of Innocence". I would rather watch "Triple X 2: State of the Union" than watch "Age of Innocence" again.

Both are deadly boring, but I'd need to see both again to truly decide. And that's just not going to happen. At least with "AOI" you get Day-Lewis, Ryder, and Pfieffer. With "Kundun," it's just a bunch of Buddhists. Sittin' and stuff. It's a damn shame when great directors and great musicians just won't give the people what they want, especially when they have such precious little time on Earth to give us these great works. In fact, that's a great post idea, I'll work on it for the week.

"Precious Little time on earth?" Is this a veiled threat? You're not thinking of murder are you?
