Holiday Movie Review Roundup: The Amateurs...Plus Links Galore!

THE AMATEURS (C-)

Filmed in the summer of 2004, The Amateurs has been in the can for over three years. The movie's title has gone through several changes, and imdb still lists it as The Moguls. The film has had a whopping six release dates going back to 2005, but it finally sputters into theaters today -- in Los Angeles and Dallas, anyway. Movies often have distribution trouble (you can read more about the problems this one faced in the Los Angeles Times), but the struggle of The Amateurs surprised me because it had all the makings of a sleeper hit. It's got a killer premise (think The Full Monty with porno) and an amazing cast. The film's struggle surprised me...until I saw it.

Also...

Here is some of my interview with the film's stars -- Jeff Bridges and Ted Danson. Danson has some great stuff on Larry David. Such a treat to meet those two.

Last week I saw Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly), subject of the new film Walk Hard, perform an awesome concert live in Los Angeles. Here's my write-up

I did a two-part "Write Stuff" on how to break into television.

Here's Part One.

Here's Part Two.

Thanks for all the good times with yesterday's face post, and feel free to keep 'em coming! Friends reminded me after it went up that I have also frequently heard:

The OC's Benjamin McKenzie (flattering!)...

...and Clay Aiken (wildly unflattering!).

menwholooklikeoldlesbians.com is one of my favorite websites and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Also (maybe this would be a comment more appropriate for your previous post), I rarely get told that I look like someone but when I do it's always the same two people: Ally Sheedy and Kristy Swanson. You don't know what I look like, but really, I don't see either of them in me.

You met Danson AND Bridges? Bastard!

Your review was excellent. What a cast! How disappointing the movie wasn't any good.

I went over to My Heritage....are you ready for this? #1 look alike for Ms. Fagan was Isabella Rosselini. I also got Meryl Streep, Brittany Murphy (eew), Kristin Davis (okay as long as they don't mean my legs - have you noticed hers? YIKES). I even got Jennifer Love Hewitt.....if ONLY I was a size 2....
